Cars in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.

A senior political figure commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
